Heading to Baton Rouge at the end of the month!

Going down from the 26-30 for a country concert at LSU stadium. Staying at an AirBnB a couple miles from the stadium around Perkins Rd and Hundred Oaks Ave.
What should my GF and I do while there? Crawfish is a must for me, what’s a good spot to go?

There are LOTS of places to pick up good food in BR. If you want high-end (and you know you do), visit Louisiana Lagniappe on Perkins road. Middle-of-the-road in terms of quality and price would be Ralph and Kacoo’s on Bluebonnet. You can get crawfish at both.

If you want to see a swamp up-close, visit the BREC Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center . If you are a Navy/history buff, the USS Kidd is docked on the river downtown and is worth seeing. That’s also a good place to get a close look at the river. The Highland Road Park Observatory also has evening viewings if you like astronomy or just want to hide in the dark with your girlfriend. If you like horseback riding, there are guided rides at the equestrian center. That’s also a good opportunity to take a fun drive down River Road.

There are also opportunities to visit some of the historic plantations both north of town and south of town (just google for plantations in Baton Rouge). There’s also a historic area called Port Hudson about half an hour north of town. Their website has a bunch of links to other historic sites in the area.

Enjoy your visit!

+1 for the Garth Brooks tie in (the only country artist I’ve ever liked).

Wow! Amazing, thanks so much. Can’t believe you went to the effort of including links. That’s awesome and much appreciated.

Those restaurants look great! Nature Center and plantations just made the list for sure!

Acme Oyster House is pretty good. I didn’t go there but I heard that Shucks On The Levee is pretty great for oysters as well, plus it’s a block from the USS Kidd.

No problem. Glad to share.

The plantations will be all-morning or all-afternoon affair. Of the ones I’ve been to, I recommend the Houma House. It’s a bit of a drive to get there, but they have areas where you can sit on the antique furniture and handle some of the artifacts. We have pictures of me wielding a cavalry sword. :)

If you go to Houma House, you have several options for lunch - the restaurant at the plantation, The Cabin, and the little restaurant at Cajun Village. Cajun Village is a tourist trap with several shops, a restaurant, and an almost guaranteed opportunity to see a live alligator.

Here’s a link to the route from Tiger Stadium to Houma House with stops at the Cajun Village and the Cabin. I don’t know why the route is not allowing a left turn from 22 to 44 at the end, but there is a left turn lane there.

I’ve been to other locations of both of those restaurants...crazy, I didn’t even realize there were more than one (or that they were BR-based).

I didn’t realize that they had other locations! I guess we have both been enlightened! That’s some good Oppo....
